After a century of existence, the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography, a public cultural institution that operates under the authority of the Cluj County Council, invites you on Sunday, January 15th 2023, to celebrate the National Culture Day 2023 with a free visit to the exhibition “The Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography - a century of exhibitions”, which will be opened on Friday, January 13th 2023 at 12 o’clock.
By means of archival images, largely unpublished, there are presented permanent exhibitions created throughout the history of the museum in the four emblematic buildings in which this institution has operated until now: the headquarters of the Technical University on George Barițiu Street (1922-1923); the building in Mihai Viteazul Square (1923-1933); the Casino building in the Central Park (1933-1958); the Reduta Palace on Memorandum street (from 1958 until present), but also in the generous space of the “Romulus Vuia” National Ethnographic Park (from 1929 until present).
The exhibition offers a captivating retrospective image of the techniques and methods of capitalizing the heritage throughout a century of Cluj museum history, highlighting the valuable elements of some museological visions that generated emblematic exhibition achievements, appreciated over time by hundreds of thousands of visitors.
The exhibition is part of the series of events marking the centenary of the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography which officially began to function on January 1st 1923.
